Narial
The industrial use of palm commenced in 1920 with the establishment of the firm, Narial, by the Indian entrepreneur Ami Rhadwaj. Narial initially specialised in the production of palm oil. It was only after World War II that it began to produce other items. Laurence Rhadwaj, a great grandson of the founder, shifted the production centre in 1994 from Sasselin to Voltes, a suburb of Port-Louis. Simultaneously, the firm increased its offerings. Today, Narial Industries manufactures Kalparik milk, flakes and graters apart from a modest amount of oil and other products. Among the firm’s specialities is a delicate palm kale called Tiyo.
