Biography

Yvonne Volkart studied German literature, linguistics, psychology and art history. She is a freelance curator, writer, and art critic (regular contributor for art/magazines and newspapers such as Kunstbulletin, Artis, Flash Art, Texte zur Kunst, Springerin, nbk, du, WoZ, Neue Zürcher Zeitung). In 1998 she received the art critic's award from the Bundesamt für Kultur, Switzerland.
She is lecturer of German, New Media and Gender Studies at the Hochschule of Art and Design in Zurich, and holds a wide range of lectures, seminars and workshops at various international art schools and universities.
The latest exhibition projects were »Tenacity. Cultural Practices in the Age of Bio- and Informationtechnologies«, New York/Zurich, 2000, »Body as Byte. The Body as information flow« (2001), and the internet and CD-ROM part of »Double Life. Identity and Transformation in Contemporary Arts«, Vienna 2001.
She planned and organized various conferences - e.g. »Brave New Work«, a two-day conference in the framework of "Viper, 18th International Film, Video and Multimedia Festival", Lucerne, May 1998, and "Strategies of the New Cyberfeminism", 8-11 March 1999, Rotterdam.
In 2001, she is networker of Plug-In, forum for new media in Basel, and initiated projects with Shu Lea Cheang, Knowbotic Research and Blast Theory. She is currently writing a PhD about cyborgs in new media art (University of Oldenburg).
